The investigation and reflection surrounding my artistic practice has acquired new layers, exploring or revisiting different territories.

In preparing this exhibition, I became aware of a conceptual thread in my work that hadn’t previously asserted itself so clearly – the presence of Africanism. Upon observing certain pieces, I became conscious of their similarities, both thematically and aesthetically. The presence of ethnic and cultural diversity, the memories of family and collective diaspora, colonial memories, all began to emerge as connections within my creative process, which resulted in the selection of works I’m proposing for this exhibition, *The Return to Africa*.

This return to a territory still unknown to me operates precisely as intangible heritage, through the stories of this past that I’ve been hearing over time, due to my family history connected to the Portuguese diaspora around the world. I have family members who were born and lived in Africa and also in Brazil. I therefore feel that these ancestral connections are in my DNA, and now, through my painting, they remain alive. A suggestion for other returns, for another perspective.
